In a celebration of inclusivity, sustainability, and social justice within the tourism industry, the Equality in Tourism Awards is moving ahead. On Friday 9th the panel of judges was celebrating and taking their final decision to recognixe those companies and initiatives fostering equality and diversity worldwide. The event, held annually, serves as a platform to honor those leading the charge towards a more equitable and inclusive tourism sector.
One notable aspect of this year’s awards was the esteemed panel of judges, which included leaders from various sectors deeply committed to the values of equality and sustainability. Among them stood Mr. Hector de Castro, CEO of LUSH association and De Castro Group. His presence underscored the alignment between the awards and LUSH’s ethos, emphasizing the importance of social responsibility and ethical tourism practices.

The panel of judges was moderated by Dr. Stroma, a prominent figure in sustainable tourism research and advocacy, alongside Mrs. Rika Jean Francois, Commissioner CSR & Director Medical Tourism Segment at ITB Berlin, a leading platform for the global travel industry. Lucy Ferguson, PhD, and Michelle Mason, Ethical Recruitment Programme Manager at the Sustainable Hospitality Alliance, brought her wealth of knowledge and experience in promoting sustainability within the hospitality sector.
The judges have reviewed initiatives and organizations that have made significant strides in advancing gender equality, empowering marginalized communities, and promoting responsible tourism practices. From community-based tourism projects empowering women in rural areas to initiatives advocating for LGBTQ+ inclusivity in travel destinations, the breadth of impactful initiatives highlighted the profound impact of promoting equality within the tourism industry.
